Trigonometry and Euclidean Geometry Self Study Guide Grade 12 Mathematics

Trigonometry and Euclidean Geometry Self Study Guide Grade 12 Mathematics. In mathematics, trigonometry is a practical technique from Euclidean geometry. They are not separate fields. Trigonometric functions can also be derived from integral calculus, but integral calculus is about the area under a curve, and area is a concept from geometry

Trigonometry and Geometry in Maths

Trigonometry: Trigonometry is a branch of Mathematics, that deals with the length, height and angles of a triangle. It especially deals with the right angle triangle. It is the study of the side length of a triangle. For any right-angle triangle, the six basic trigonometric ratios are sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent. These basic functions are derived using the sides of the triangle such as adjacent side, opposite side and the hypotenuse side.

Elementary trigonometry is useful and easier as it involves the process of finding the area of right triangles, and area of quadrilateral using triangle concepts. But, whereas in advanced trigonometry, it involves various trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, and also it deals with the calculus of trigonometric functions to find the areas. The applications of trigonometry are widely used in the architecture to construct the building.

Geometry: In Mathematics, geometry is an important branch that deals with the study of measurements and the relationship between points, lines, angles on the plane surface. Basically, Geometry is classified into two types, namely

  • Two-Dimensional Geometry or Plane Geometry
  • Three-Dimensional Geometry or Solid Geometry

Plane geometry deals with the two-dimensional shapes that have two-dimensions such as length and breadth, whereas three-dimensional geometry deals with the solid shapes that have three dimensions, such as length, breadth and height. Here, we are going to discuss the difference between trigonometry and geometry in detail.

What is the Difference Between Trigonometry and Geometry

Go through the major difference between the trigonometry and geometry which are listed below in the tabular form.
