Tufts University is on a semester system. All undergraduates (except REAL students) are expected to carry a full course load (four to five courses each semester), except in cases of serious, documented health conditions.
Full-time status at Tufts is defined as attempting a minimum of 12 Semester-hour units (SHUs) in a semester. After completing Tufts’ residency requirement of eight semesters of full-time study, you may choose to graduate or enrol part-time in either your final or penultimate semester.

- 3 Wednesday – Fall 2023 Grades due in SIS by 9:00 AM
- 15 Monday – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Observed – University Holiday—NO CLASSES
- 17 Wednesday – Classes begin
- 24 Wednesday – Last day to ADD classes via SIS at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight
Deadline to Apply to Graduate via SIS if graduating in Spring 2024 (May 2024 degree conferral) or
graduating in Summer 2024 (August 2024 degree conferral)
FEBRUARY 2024
- 19 Monday – Presidents’ Day Observed—University Holiday—NO CLASSES
- 21 Wednesday – DROP deadline via SIS at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight; last day to drop a course without
record of enrollment
- 22 Thursday – Substitute MONDAY’S class schedule on Thursday, February 22
MARCH 2024
- 16 Saturday – Spring Recess begins—NO CLASSES
- 25 Monday – Spring Recess ends; Classes resume
APRIL 2024
- 1 Monday – Pre–Registration Period via SIS for Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters
- 12 Friday – Course Evaluations open via Blue at 9:00 AM
- 15 Monday – Patriots’ Day Observed—University Holiday—NO CLASSES
- 29 Monday – Last day of classes for the Spring 2024 semester;
Last day to WITHDRAW from courses with grade of “W” on transcript;
Course Evaluations via Blue close at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight
- 30 Tuesday – Reading Period
MAY 2024
- 1–2 Wed–Thurs – Reading Period
- 3 Friday – Final Examinations begin
- 10 Friday – Final Examinations end
- 13 Monday – DEGREE CANDIDATES’ SPRING 2024 SEMESTER GRADES DUE IN SIS BY 9:00 AM
- 17 Friday – REMAINING SPRING 2024 SEMESTER GRADES DUE IN SIS BY 9:00 AM
- 19 Sunday – Commencement
- 22 Wednesday – Summer 2024 semester begins
When some days fall on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed on the following Monday; when they fall on a Saturday, the holiday will be observed on the previous Friday.
