ENTRY CRITERIA

Entry requirements for all programmes for all qualifications must comply with the requirements specified by the relevant authorities, e.g. Department of Education; Department of Higher Education; SETAs, etc.

Each specific programme may require additional competency assessment prior to enrolment.  Contact your campus for the requirements of the programme you want to enrol for. E.g. Electrical – colour competency; Mechanical – eye/hand coordination; Civil and Electrical – no fear of heights.

Students with physical; mental; educational challenges or disabilities must be screened/interviewed, counselled and placed in appropriate programmes, or may be required to submit a report from a qualified psychologist/doctor.

Learnership students will be screened according to the SETA requirements for the programme of enrolment.

An exception may be made by the Campus Manager for admission granted on age and/or experience.  In such instances, it needs to be established that although the student does not have the formal minimum requirement, work experience and maturity make the probability of success likely.

In the case of students with certification from foreign countries, the Department of Higher Education and Training provides the appropriate guidelines.  Where no such guide for a specific certificate can be found, the student may be advised to liaise with SAQA in order to verify the qualification.

1. Educational Qualifications

To enroll in programmes offered by Mnambithi TVET College, you need to meet certain educational qualifications. These qualifications vary depending on the specific course or programme you’re interested in.

You’ll need to have completed a certain level of schooling, such as Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11, or Grade 12.

  • Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
  • Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.

Minimum Language proficiency;

All applicants must have attained a certain level of proficiency in English and are required to submit evidence of this, as outlined below, as part of their application to study.

South African Senior Certificate Applicants;
  • South African Senior Certificate undergraduate applicants to UCT must have achieved a pass of 40% or more on the Higher Grade in English (First or Second Language) at the Senior Certificate level.
South African NSC applicants;
  • South African NSC undergraduate applicants to UCT, must have achieved a rating of 2 (Elementary Achievement, 30-40%) or better at Home Language or First Additional Language level.

Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR NC(V) STUDENTS

  • Grade 9 Pass Or Equivalent
  • Students who endeavour to enrol for NCV Level 2 Electrical Construction – may, on applying for employment, be required to pass a Colour competency test.

An NQF Level 1 qualification; or

  • An approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2 or
  • A Recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basis requirements for access to NQF Level 2
  • Attach two(2) certified copies of parent’s ID

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR NATED STUDENTS

  • N4 (Senior Certificate Or National Certificate N3 Or
  • Grade 12 Or An Equivalent Qualification. An Admission Test May Be Required).

2. Matriculation Certificate (Grade 12)

For NATED Report 191 programmes at Mnambithi TVET College, you are required to have a Matriculation Certificate or its equivalent. This means you must have successfully completed Grade 12 or its equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
