Residence life is a special experience. Staying in a NWU residence is an extension of students’ university education, where they can benefit from all the facilities and services such as student learning centres, social and sporting activities, life-skills and peer- programmes.

NWU Student Residence

NWU provides different types of accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students, on and off campus.

Usually, you will start out in a first-tier residence (full catering), move on to a second-tier residence (senior catering or self-catering) and later, stay in third-tier accommodation (semi-autonomous self-catering).

Each residence has its own history and traditions, but they all try to provide a great experience. Safety is of great importance to NWU, so all residences have strict access control and most are covered by closed-circuit television cameras.

Students with disabilities can be accommodated in different residences. Simply contact the Student Accommodation Office and the Disability Service, and they will address your particular needs.

How To Apply For NWU Student Housing | How to apply for student accommodation

Apply for student housing as part of your NWU application for admission. Housing eligibility criteria for first-time entering undergraduates: first-tier student accommodation There are limited places in residence and these are awarded to applicants on the basis of criteria described below.

Meeting some of these criteria will prioritise you an offer of accommodation, while others may only make you eligible for an offer. Further information about the criteria in each of these categories is provided below

Obtain a residence application form from the Residence Administration Office and submit the form on or before the dates supplied by the Residence Administration Office.
Residence admission, depending on the availability of space, is only possible upon successful academic acceptance as set out in the placement procedure.
Successful applicants will be notified and late applications will be placed on a waiting list.
Students must apply yearly for residence accommodation.

All students – prospective and current students need to apply annually at the Residence Administration Office, Building 14K Room no. G01 & G04 yearly. An administration fee of R500.00 deposit for prospective students must be paid.

Prospective students must have been informed by the Academic Administration Department that they are accepted and a student number (i.e. 12815691) must be issued.

Please note: First time applications for Post Graduate and Senior students need to pay a R380-00 application fee. If you are currently residing in a residence there is NO application fee to be paid.

First-year Residence Applicants

Prospective students will be notified regarding their residence status via email or sms by the relevant department after the closing date 31 August 2022.
